Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin

This was one of the most anticipated new courses in Thailand and especially in Hua Hin. The Thai Nordic Group is using Pacific Coast Design of Australia to carry out their master plan of building two golf courses. The East Course is a championship course with a par of 72 measuring 7261 yards.

Pacific Coast Designs has been building courses in Australia and throughout Asia for over 20 years. They have constructed courses in China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Pakistan, India and also in the Kingdom of Thailand. This vast experience in this rapidly growing golf area of Asia was probably a huge reason that they were brought on board to take on this big and exciting project.

Black Mountain is situated in the secluded and tranquil hills and valleys that back up to the mountains that frame Hua Hin just 10 kilometres from the center of town. There are many natural watercourses that are incorporated throughout the layout. The Thai Nordic Group has created this course in a manner that leaves nothing to be desired. Their goals are simple, yet very demanding, as they want this to be the finest course in all Asia and eventually host prominent professional and amateur events, including European PGA Tour events. All the appurtenant facilities required for such a venture will be included along with a first class golf academy.

No cost has been spared in regards to attaining their goals. The number one who was to open in one year and ideally in time for the King's birthday. They are right on track to have play commence before the end of 2006 despite the many obstacles they faced that were out of their control. The course has a state-of-the-art computer controlled irrigation system with associated weather stations to assure a perfect carpet of turf grass. This sophisticated system should compliment the tiff eagle Bermuda greens and the Seashore Paspalum fairways and rough, which provide one of the better surfaces for play in the tropics.

As in all great championship courses Black Mountain has multiple tees so they can challenge the world's top players yet also allow an enjoyable and fair game for the average and high handicappers. There are gradual elevation changes as the forested mountains with their abrupt rock (black in color, therefore the name) outcroppings provide the backdrop to the panoramic vistas of the fertile farm land that extends down towards the gulf and Hua Hin.
